Preparing for Your Surgery

Pre-Admissions Call:
During the week prior to your surgery, a Pre-Admissions nurse will be contacting you to review your health history, including all vitamins, medications, previous surgeries, other conditions and more.  This information will be reviewed by an anesthesiologist so that he or she may be able to adequately plan for your care.  The nurse will also advise you as to which medications need to be stopped when and when you need to stop eating and drinking prior to your procedure.  If you receive a voicemail from the Pre-Op nurse, please call back as soon as possible. This review must occur prior to your date of service so as to avoid cancellation of your procedure.

Pre-Operative Clearance:
Your surgeon or the anesthesiologist may order lab work, EKG or xrays to ensure your safety during the procedure. You may be asked to go to an outside laboratory or you primary care physician for these tests.  It is best to have these tests done at least 3 days prior to your scheduled procedure date.

Other items to Consider:
 – Please arrange for a responsible adult to accompany you to and from the Surgery Center. If you have had any sedation/anesthesia someone should stay with you for the first 24 hours after your procedure.

 – Many medications must be stopped for at least one week before your surgery including but not limited to:

  • Aspirin or Aspirin containing products
  • NSAIDs, or non steroid anti inflammatory medications including Advil, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Aleve and Naproxen
  • Herbal Supplements including fish oil and many vitamins
  • Blood Thinners with the approval of your doctor ONLY
  • Antibiotics must be completed 24 hours prior to procedure

Please call the Pre-Op nurse directly at 303-963-1517 with any pre-operative, medical history, surgical clearance or medications questions.
